While males tend to be more striking in appearence, it is the females that are the back bone of any breeding program for without them, it would simply not be possible to raise litters. You may often find that breeders accept more flaws in their females as a plain female with a good pedigree can still contribute hugely to a breeding program and outproduce herself. Since most breeders want their stud dogs to be championned combined with the fact that "the male seeds" can spread much faster than the females...most breeders will be more particular about which males they keep.

Because females experience a heavy coat blow around the time of their cycle (and lose most of their coat after they raise a litter), it can be extremely frustrating to show females or special them. For those reasons, we often do not focus on showing females that do not enjoy the ring or the ones that are slow maturing unless we get a good window of opportunity once their coat fills in.

Most of our females here at Mythical Poms are of show quality, but we focus on showing the ones that we feel have most potential and most likely to be able to obtain their championship title quickly since there are not many local shows and we do not have a huge opportunity to travel far.

As it stands, we have 2 Champion females and 3 that are pointed which we hope to finish after they recoat from their year blow.
